Obverse: against the backdrop of Olesko Castle, as depicted on a 19th century engraving, are Ukraine`s small coat of arms (to the left) and an image carved in stone and placed above the entryway during Danilowicz’s reconstruction; beneath, against the smooth background of a silhouette of merlons, symbolizing the defensive significance of the castle during a certain period in its history, is the following legend: УКРАЇНА/ 2021/ 10 ГРИВЕНЬ (Ukraine/2021/10 hryvnias).
Reverse: against a smooth background is Olesko Castle and the following legends: ОЛЕСЬКИЙ/ ЗАМОК (Olesko Castle) (above, to the right).
This coin celebrates Olesko Castle – a pearl of Lviv oblast. The first historical records of this architectural and historical monument date back to 1327. The castle, which has for many centuries stood on the top of a steep residual hill, has witnessed and been involved in many events that have gone down in the history of Ukraine and its neighboring countries. In the 17th century, Jan Danilowicz turned this medieval fortress into a Renaissance-style palace. The Olesko architectural complex, which apart from the castle also incorporates a Capuchin church with cells for monks, was included on the list of the Golden Horseshoe tourist route (a popular tourist route that resembles a horseshoe).
