Obverse: above, there is the Small Coat of Arms of Ukraine, with the legend УКРАЇНА/5 ГРИВЕНЬ/2014 (UKRAINE/5 HRYVNIAS/2014) below it. In the center, there are verses from a poem by Pavlo Tychyna: Я ЄСТЬ НАРОД,/ЯКОГО ПРАВДИ СИЛА/НІКИМ ЗВОЙОВАНА ЩЕ НЕ БУЛА./ЯКА БІДА МЕНЕ,/ЯКА ЧУМА КОСИЛА! -/А СИЛА ЗНОВУ РОЗЦВІЛА…/ПАВЛО ТИЧИНА (I am the people/whose power of truth/has not been conquered by anyone,/Despite all plagues/the power blossomed again…/Pavlo Tychyna.) To the right of the verses, there is a bunch of wild cornflowers, ears of wheat, and poppies, executed in pad print. On the silver coin, there is the logotype of the National Bank of Ukraine Mint.

Reverse: to the right, against the background of a map of Ukraine, there is a stylized composition of two women symbolizing sorrow and happiness. There are the following legends: 28/ЖОВТНЯ/1944, 22/ЧЕРВНЯ/1941 (28/OCTOBER/1944, 22/JUNE/1941) to the left, and ВИЗВОЛЕННЯ/УКРАЇНИ/ВІД ФАШИСТСЬКИХ/ЗАГАРБНИКІВ (LIBERATION/OF UKRAINE/FROM FASCIST INVADERS) below it.

The coin is dedicated to the liberation of Ukraine where heavy fighting took place between the USSR and Nazi Germany and its allies. Ukraine was hit badly during the war, which resulted in cities and villages being destroyed, left the economy in a shambles, and cost the lives of millions. Military operations lasted 40 months in Ukraine. Consisting of 11 strategic and 23 army group operations, the battle of Ukraine ended on October 28, 1944, when Ukraine was completely cleared of Hitler`s forces.
