On the obverse of the medal on a mirror background there are: above - inscription Ukraine, under which the year of coinage - 2021; Small State Emblem of Ukraine (left against the fragment of the flag of Ukraine), fragment of the European Union flag (right); In the center - a scheme of change of location of the university at different time intervals and inscriptions: Vienna/1921/Prague/1921/Munich/1945; Below is a matte background-a laurel branch, under which the logo of the banknote-marked court of the National Bank of Ukraine.

On the reverse of the medal on a mirror background there is a logo of the university (above); in the center - a stylized image of the bridge as a symbol that unites different sides, peoples, countries, etc.; Inscriptions: 100/years (under the bridge), Ukrainian free university (below the semicircle).

The commemorative medal is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Ukrainian University, created outside Ukraine by the Ukrainian intelligentsia in emigration, with the Ukrainian language of teaching. The Ukrainian Free University, uniting many leading Ukrainian scientists of the twentieth century, became a scientific and educational institution for the Ukrainian diaspora, which did not want to lose its identity. Having changed three European cities and rebuilt in the post -war Munich, the University still remains the center of knowledge about Ukraine in Europe. It seeks to be an intellectual bridge between Ukraine and the European Union, is an important source of Ukrainian studies in the German -speaking environment.
