The obverse of the coin reproduces the design of the 1 hryvnia circulation coin of the 2018 model. Above is a small State Coat of Arms of Ukraine; in the center - framed by an ancient Russian ornament - inscriptions: UKRAINE / 1 / HRYVNYA, as well as the logo of the National Bank of Ukraine Mint (on the right); at the bottom - the minting year - 2026.
The reverse of the coin reproduces the design of the first circulation coin with a denomination of 1 hryvnia, which was in circulation until 2018 (now it is gradually withdrawn from circulation). The year of the monetary reform in Ukraine - 1996 - is added below, and in the center - in the frame of an ornament made of stylized branches - there are inscriptions: 1 / HRYVNYA.
The commemorative coin is dedicated to the introduction of the hryvnia. The monetary reform became an important stage in the establishment of Ukraine's economic independence, establishing the hryvnia as a full-fledged national currency, and the choice of the name "hryvnia" was a conscious reference to the history of Ukrainian statehood.
