On the obverse of the medal is placed: at the top: the small state coat of arms of Ukraine, to the right of which the inscriptions: 2022/Ukraine; in the center on a mirror background – a stylized composition formed from maps of the cities of Kiev region: Gostomel, Bucha, Irpen, which in combination resemble the shape of a heart; at the top right of the composition – an enemy paratrooper with a shot parachute; at the top of the composition – the legendary plane “Mriya”; in the center – a mirror tear; at the bottom left – a stylized flower as a symbol of the revival of life. To the left of the central composition – stylized windows of houses, to the right-flying balloons; at the bottom is the inscription: Kiev region/cities of heroes and the logo of the banknote and mint of the National Bank of Ukraine. The composition of the obverse is complemented by images that symbolize wounds as evidence of physical and moral suffering caused to Ukrainians by the invaders: mirror (left above the windows), “sewn” wound (right above the bullets), wound “sewn” with an element of national embroidery (left under the windows); at the bottom right – an element of national embroidery, symbolizing wound healing and recovery.

The reverse of the medal on a mirror background shows a girl on a swing, which during a "flight" breaks a hair ribbon, symbolizing a broken life; Below the right - prints of dirty boots of the enemy who invaded the peaceful life of Ukrainians; To the left is a bird as a symbol of life extension (near the girl); stylized city (up); forest; The "river of life" (below) is shot. The commemorative medal is dedicated to the perseverance, endurance and heroism of citizens and honoring the memory of the victims. After the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022, Irpen, Gostomel, Bucha and other settlements in the suburbs of Kiev became a zone of intense fighting. Columns of armored vehicles and air troops of the Russian army in order to surround Kiev captured settlements in the capital region, where they caused significant destruction of Housing, Infrastructure and committed mass war crimes against the civilian population: looting, physical violence, kidnapping and killing of people, including children. On April 02, 2022, thanks to joint actions, professionalism, heroism of all components of the Defense Forces and the help of the local population, the Kiev region was liberated from Russian invaders. After the liberation, the terrible truth about the terrible mass killings of the civilian population and the atrocities of the occupiers was revealed, which so shocked the civilized world that an investigation was initiated into war crimes and crimes against humanity related to Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine.
