On the obverse of the coins there is a stylized inscription word-the name of the Kharkiv House of Writers of the 1930s. In the texture of the letters, winter wheat is visible - the image of the young generation of artists whose life and creativity were mercilessly destroyed by totalitarian power. The tragedy of the historical era emphasizes the sparkle letter "O" from which the blood flows, reminiscent of a painful wound in the history of Ukraine and the impossible dreams of talented artists. Under the text composition, the inscription of Ukraine, the year of coinage-20/25, small state emblem of Ukraine, denomination 5 with the graphic symbol of the hryvnia and the logo of the banknote-monetary court of the National Bank of Ukraine.
The reverse of the coin on a mirror background shows a stylized portrait of Mykola Khvylovy. The symbolic composition conveys a deep content: the writer's face is imprisoned among the irregular stoves that reflect the attempts of totalitarian regime to destroy the memory of the artist. To the right of the portrait vertically there are inscriptions: Nicholas / Fitillov - the real name of the artist, engraved embossed, and Nicholas / Khvylovy - a nickname, made mirror. On the left, the years of life of the artist - 1893 /1933.
Пам’ятна монета присвячена літературно-мистецькому поколінню України 20-х – початку 30-х років XX століття, яке дало потужний імпульс для розвитку української культури, проте було нещадно репресоване тоталітарним режимом. Важливим культурним центром того періоду став будинок “Слово” в Харкові – осередок творчості та місце трагічних подій, де зароджувалися новаторські погляди, спалахували запеклі інтелектуальні дискусії та народжувалися нові мистецькі течії. Микола Хвильовий (справжнє прізвище Фітільов) – ключова постать культурного відродження, один із засновників української пореволюційної прози, поет і публіцист. Його діяльність сприяла утвердженню україноцентризму й інтеграції національної культури у світовий контекст. Передчасна загибель митця стала символом краху ідеалів українського націонал-комунізму та завершенням епохи українського національного відродження 1920–1930-х років. Ця пам’ятна монета розпочинає тему Розстріляного відродження, вшановуючи внесок Миколи Хвильового та всіх митців, які, попри жорсткий тиск, відважно творили та розвивали українську культуру.
