Kochubei Mykola

Mykola Kochubei (born 30 December 1956 in Kyiv) is a Ukrainian graphic artist and painter, and an Honored Artist of Ukraine. He studied with Viktor Zaretskyi, graduated from the Kyiv Art Institute and has been a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine since 1990. His easel graphics draw on Ukrainian folklore, color etching, fragments of icon painting, folk pictures and material culture; the same visual language informs his design sketches for NBU commemorative coins.

In the UA Coins catalog Kochubei appears as a coin artist from the late 1990s to recent issues. His corpus moves from portrait and historical-cultural themes — Anatolii Solovianenko, Kateryna Bilokur, Khan Palace in Bakhchysarai, Mykola Lysenko — to subjects of folk culture and memory: Epiphany, Holodomor - Genocide of the Ukrainian People, Ukrainian Borscht, Pavlo Hlazovyi and Medzhybizh Castle. Ukraine's Best Coin of the Year competition recognized his works Sorochynskyi Fair, Epiphany and Holodomor - Genocide of the Ukrainian People.
