On the obverse of the medal there are: above - inscription Ukraine (semicircle), under which - the small State Emblem of Ukraine and the Year of Mining of the Medal - 2023 (vertically against the background of the map); In the center on the mirror background of the inscriptions: city/Volnovakha/Heroes (used font Zerno, author O. Lishchuk), in the inscription the word "Volnovakha" the letter "N" replaces a fragment of the railway track, which reaches the small State Emblem of Ukraine and symbolizes the desire of the city to return home to Ukraine; stylized fragments of maps of cities - Donetsk (above), Mariupol (below); The logo of the Banknote Courtyard of the National Bank of Ukraine (below on the right).

On the reverse of the medal there is a stylized composition: the image of the Ukrainian warrior (left) and stylized elements of the coat of arms of the Volnovakha: on the background of a rounded line (symbolizes the location of the Volnovakha on one of the highest places a shadow symbolizing confidence in the liberation of the city.

The commemorative medal is devoted to commemorating the feat, mass heroism and stability of citizens found in the protection of the city of Volnovakh from the armed aggression of Russia against Ukraine. The war came to the city in May 2014, and during a full -scale invasion, it was on the front line where fierce fighting was going on. Volnovakha is located on the important paths of the connection of Mariupol - Donetsk and Mariupol - Zaporizhzhia, so she was a good piece for Russian invaders. As a result of merciless air strikes and artillery shelling in the city, all the infrastructure was destroyed, it is practically destroyed and occupied.
