On the reverse of the medal on the mirror background there is an inscription - Chernihiv/the city of heroes, which divides the field of the medal of the need: in the upper part - a mirror composition, which symbolizes the resistance of the Russian invaders, despite destruction; In the lower - a stylized panorama of the city with its historic buildings.

The commemorative medal is devoted to the commemoration of the feat, mass heroism and stability of citizens of the city, which from the first hours of the invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine was under 24 -hour shelling. It was Chernihiv, one of the oldest cities in Ukraine, was one of the first to try to invade enemy troops, but thanks to the united resistance of all the components of defense, it was not possible to seize it by the occupiers. After the unsuccessful attempts to seize the city, the Russians blew the bridges and began to be equalized with the ground, as a result of shelling, many civilian objects were damaged, including schools and kindergartens, and many residential buildings were destroyed. For a long time in Chernihiv there was no power supply, water, heat, gas, lacking food, but thanks to cohesion, support and mutual assistance, locals stood.
