Obverse: on top of the coat of arms of the USSR with 15 turns of tape underneath the letters "USSR", the symbol below if the coin denomination, the number "1" and below the word "RUBLE", the bottom edge year of issue "1989".

Reverse: at centre an image of T. G. Shevchenko on the left in two lines, date "1814", "1861" and the inscription in a semicircle "T. G. SHEVCHENKO", below the signature, facsimile of the poet.

Edge: two pressed the inscription "ONE RUBLE", between them the two pressed square pixels.
